Bagel Bites

Remember those storebought bagel bites that everyone obsessed over at school? These are the homemade version- healthier, fresher, and just as fun.

These bagel bites are made with just two ingredients—Greek yogurt and self-raising flour—yet they bake up soft, chewy, and endlessly versatile! Perfect for toddlers who love finger foods, you can keep them plain with a sprinkle of sesame or dress them up pizza-style with cheese and sauce. They freeze beautifully too, making them a lifesaver for busy school mornings or snackbox prep.

Refer to the Instagram reel I made of the bagel bites recipe for a better visual of the steps!

Bagel Bites

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • 1 ¾ cup self-raising flour

Optional:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Flavorings: sesame seeds, everything bagel mix, poppy seeds, or cinnamon sugar

  • Toppings: cream cheese, pizza-style with tomato & cheese, peanut butter, etc.

  • I used unsweetened Primal Kitchen ketchup + grated cheddar from M&S

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: 175°C (350°F).

  2. Make the dough: In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt and self-raising flour with a fork or spatula. Bring together with your hands.

  3. Knead: Transfer to a floured surface and knead a few times until a smooth ball forms.

  4. Shape: Slice dough into even pieces, then cut each piece in half. Roll into small logs and join the ends to form bagel shapes.

  5. Egg wash & toppings: Brush with egg wash (if using) and sprinkle with your choice of flavorings.

  6. First bake: Bake for 20–24 minutes (mine finished at 21 minutes). Cool slightly.

  7. Fill & finish: Slice each bagel bite in half, add toppings of choice, and place back in oven at 215°C (420°F) for 6–8 minutes until toppings are golden.

Notes:

  • Suitable for 12m+.

  • Keeps in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven or air fryer before serving.

  • Freezer-friendly: Freeze baked (but unfilled) bagel bites in a zip-top bag for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge, then slice, add toppings, and reheat at 180°C (350°F) for 5–6 minutes before serving.

  • Great in snackboxes or as an after-school treat with apples & celery!

Fresh out of the oven, before slicing!
