Air-Fryer Rice Crackers

Crispy rice crackers made from cooked Japanese rice — air-fried with your favorite friendly seasonings.

These homemade rice crackers are a fun way to use up leftover rice. Simply mix, shape, and air-fry until golden and crunchy. Customize them with sesame, miso, or shoyu koji for gentle umami, and cut them into cute shapes for snack time.

Air-Fried Rice Crackers (Toddler-Friendly)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked Japanese short-grain rice (warm or reheated)

  • ½ tsp sesame seeds (optional)

  • ½ tsp furikake (low-sodium or toddler-friendly)

  • ¼ tsp shoyu koji or low-sodium soy sauce (optional)

  • Olive oil spray or brush (optional, for extra crunch)

📌 Use soft, sticky rice like Japanese short-grain rice. Long-grain rice won’t hold together well.

Instructions:

  1. Mix
In a bowl, combine warm rice with your chosen seasonings (e.g. sesame, miso, shoyu koji, or furikake). Mix well.

  2. Shape
Press rice into a very thin, flat sheet (or multiple small pieces, up to you).

  3. Preheat air fryer
Set air fryer to 180°C (350°F). Lightly spray or brush rice crackers with olive oil if using.

  4. Air-fry
Place shaped crackers in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crisp on the outside.

  5. Cool & store
Let cool completely on a rack. Store in an airtight container for up to 2–3 days.

Note for Toddlers:

Suitable from 10 months+, depending on texture tolerance and chewing skills. Start with thinner, softer crackers for younger toddlers.

Ingredients:

Use leftover or freshly made sticky Japanese rice. Miso, shoyu koji, and furikake can be found at Don Don Donki, Citysuper, or Waraya in Hong Kong.
