Pizza
I use Bob’s Red Mill Artisan Bread Flour, available at Marketplace and HKTVmall
This soft-crusted pizza uses artisan bread flour for a chewy but toddler-friendly base, with your choice of topping (for us, a savory minced pork mixture, broccoli, and mild cheese). A perfect, wholesome homemade lunch or dinner that little hands can easily hold.
For busy days, you can use a jarred tomato sauce, but if you prefer to make your own from scratch, I’ve included an easy recipe below.
Homemade Pizza
Ingredients:
250 g (2 cups) bread flour - I use Bob’s Red Mill
1 tsp instant yeast - I use 1 packet of SAF instant yeast from citysuper
½ tsp sugar - I use coconut or beet sugar
½ tsp salt
150 ml warm water
1 tbsp olive oil
Cheese & Veg:
30–40g mild mozzarella or cheddar
3-4 broccoli florets
Sauce Option 1 (jar tomato sauce):
3 tbsp tomato basil sauce (e.g., Barilla Basilico)
Optional: stir in 1–2 tbsp finely grated carrot or zucchini for hidden veggies
Sauce Option 2 (from scratch):
150g canned crushed tomatoes (½ cup)
1 tsp olive oil
1 small garlic clove, grated
Pinch of dried oregano or basil
Pinch of salt + sugar to balance
Directions: Heat oil in a small pan, sauté garlic for 30 seconds. Add tomatoes, herbs, salt, and sugar. Simmer 10 minutes until slightly thickened. Cool before using.
Minced Pork Topping:
100–120g minced pork
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp soy sauce (or shoyu, shoyu koji)
Small pinch sugar
1 tsp very finely grated onion (or a tiny pinch onion powder)
Black pepper, optional
Instructions:
Make the dough
Mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
Add warm water and olive oil, stir to bring together.
Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic (bread flour needs a touch more kneading).
Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Prepare the pork topping
Heat olive oil in a pan. Cook pork until no longer pink.
Stir in soy sauce, sugar, and onion. Cook until liquid mostly evaporates. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
Assemble
Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
Roll out the dough thinly (bread flour stretches well).
Spread sauce, scatter cheese, and add toppings.
Bake
Bake pizza 10–12 minutes until cheese is bubbling and edges are golden.
Notes:
The artisan flour gives a nice chewy bite but is still soft enough for toddlers.
Pre-cooking the pork keeps it safe and prevents excess liquid.
Freeze dough portions after the first rise for future quick pizzas.
Extra topping ideas: corn kernels, tiny broccoli florets, or diced sweet potato. This bread is free from added sugars, oils, and preservatives, making it suitable for toddlers from around 10 months old (offered in safe, age-appropriate pieces). Always supervise closely.
